Procedures for marriage

Submit the following documents to the Civic Affairs Section at Urayasu City Hall when you are getting married.

For all the people

• Marriage notification: one copy
  The notification form is available at Urayasu City Hall. Submit this form as a couple.

When a foreign national is marrying a Japanese national

To be prepared by the foreign national partner

• Affidavit of Competency to Marry and its Japanese translation
  This form is available at the embassy or a consulate of your home country.
• Your birth certificate and its Japanese translation
  Available at the embassy or a consulate of your home country. If you are unable to obtain a copy of your birth certificate, please consult with the city.
• Your passport and its Japanese translation

To be prepared by the Japanese national partner

• Certificate of all matters in the family register (a copy of the family register)
• Personal identification (driver’s license, etc.)

When two foreign nationals are getting married

The laws of marriage differ depending on the country. Please contact the embassy or consulate of each of your home countries.

If you wish to get married under Japanese law, submit your marriage notification along with the documents listed above under the subheading of “To be prepared by the foreign national partner” which is written under the heading of “When a foreign national is marrying a Japanese national” for each person.

 Certificates available after submitting a marriage notification

You can obtain a certificate of receipt or certificate of registered matters at the Civic Affairs Section (350yen per certificate). Please contact the Civic Affairs Section if you need one.
